What can I say about these beautiful sentient beings? Why do we choose to have them suffer and die so that we can put them on a plate, rather than just eating the same foods they did to survive? I know why I did..... I never thought about it. After learning about the tragic way they live and die, I could not turn my back and continue with the status quo. It seems crazy to me now, decades after the invention of the internet, that word has not spread about animal intelligence, friendships and social interactions of farm animals, and the injustice of dominating a few docile species just because we are smarter and stronger. Let's spread the word and hope that compassion will follow.
As long as man continues to be the ruthless destroyer of lower living beings he will never know health or peace. For as long as men massacre animals, they will kill each other. --- Pythagoras
Perhaps the most heartbreaking are the lives of the cows who are repeatedly impregnated in order for us to serve milk, cheese, butter, ice cream and other dairy products. Their distress is seen for days after the awful event. These generally docile beings become aggressive when their calves are pulled from them during the birth. Then, the calves are taken to small pens and chained up so that their muscles cannot develop. Their muscles need to stay white and pale for "velvety" veal when their lives are ended at 18 weeks. Even after such a tortured childhood, not being able to run through green pastures, not even this living creature yearns for death. And all of this happens to create totally unnatural food choices. Let's wean from our own mother's milk and move on to adult food.
